Pobjoy Mint is delighted to announce the release of a further coin in the Royal Wedding Collection. This new coin is issued on behalf of the British Virgin Islands Government.

The official announcement was made by Clarence House on 16th November last year advising that His Royal Highness Prince William had become engaged to his girlfriend Catherine Middleton. The couple had met at the University of St Andrews while they were both studying there.

The Wedding itself, which takes place on 29th April, is attracting interest from many nations and the event itself is expected to be watched by billions of people, not only those lining the streets of London to wish the couple luck as they travel to and from Westminster Abbey, but also on televisions all over the world.

Approved by both Buckingham Palace and Clarence House, the design on the coin features a finely sculpted portrait of the Royal Couple based on the press conference at St James’ Palace on the day of the announcement and shows Catherine displaying her engagement ring which is the same ring that Prince Charles used to propose to Diana, Princess of Wales.

The obverse of the coin carries a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS and is available in Proof Sterling Silver and Unc. Cupro Nickel with each precious metal version carefully struck four times with frosted sculpting against a mirror brilliant background.
