Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson was born 250 years ago in 1758. The greatest naval hero in British history, he masterminded the defeat of the French at the Battle of Trafalgar – the most important and decisive naval battle in British history. Moments after learning of his stunning success, Nelson died on the deck of ‘HMS Victory’. To celebrate the 250th Anniversary of his birth, the British Virgin Islands released a remarkable coin depicting the Naval Gold Medal that was awarded three times to Nelson for his history-changing naval success. The coin is presented in a stunning walnut finished presentation case with mosaic detail and ivory interior which reflects the quality craftsmanship of Nelson’s time.
