Following a survey asking Britons to decide who their greatest Briton of all time was, Pobjoy Mint honoured three of the revered figures from the final top thirty with coin releases. Admiral Nelson (number nine), Isambard Kingdom Brunel (number two) and Queen Victoria (number eighteen). Due to popular demand, Pobjoy Mint released in 2007 four further coins from the Falkland Islands. Elizabeth I, the last of the Tudor monarchs reached number seven in the poll. She was Queen at the time that the First Settlement grew up on the Falkland Islands. Famous naturalist Charles Darwin came in at number four. He visited the Islands in 1833 aboard his ship ‘The Beagle’. Lord Baden Powell, creator of the Scout movement and at number 13 in the poll, was presented with the vessel ‘Discovery’ by the Falkland Islands Government in 1947 for the use of his Sea Scouts. Sixty years after he led Britain through the Second World War, Winston Churchill, came out top.
