Since the release of the first coin in 1988, the Isle of Man Manx Cat series from Pobjoy Mint has become one of the most popular coin series in the world.  Each IOM coin has depicted a cat or kitten and 2009 sees the issue of another wonderful coin.

The design on this coloured uncirculated cupro nickel collector's coin in a pack depicts Chinchilla cat with her kitten.

Originally issued as Cupro Nickel, Proof Fine 999. Silver, 999.9 Gold Bullion quality and Proof Fine 999.9 Gold Set. The IOM coins are available in Cupro Nickel and Proof Fine 999. Silver. Each proof precious metal coin is struck four times to attain the superlative Pobjoy proof finish with the finely sculpted relief of the fluffy cat and kitten beautifully contrasted against the pebbled wall in the background and birds flying in the skies above.  For the sixth year running the Silver and the Cupro Nickel versions are available as stunning coloured coins with the Cupro Nickel coins in a lovely presentation pack.

Chinchillas are a variety of the Persian cat and they are classed as a "silver" cat.  The Chinchilla is a longhaired cat, distinguished by large green or blue-green eyes.  The Chinchilla’s coat is a silky texture, and the coat requires daily grooming to keep the cat comfortable.  They moult heavily twice a year and shed some hair all year round.  The kittens are born almost black with heavy tabby markings, which disappear as they get older, making way for the pure white coat colour.  Chinchillas are not as stout in body type as other longhaired cats and they have quite melodious voices and an aptitude for adjusting to any new environment.  They are, perhaps most famous as Blofeld’s cat in the Bond films!

Approved by Buckingham Palace, the obverse bears a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank Broadley FRBS FSNAD.
