On 9th September 2015, Her Majesty will pass the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria to achieve the accolade of becoming the longest ever reigning Monarch in British History. To celebrate this major milestone Pobjoy Mint is proud to announce the release of a series of coins from four different Overseas Territories which commemorate the historical event of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II becoming the Longest Reigning British Monarch.

This beautiful collector's coin itself features the 2011 portrait taken from TRH the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding with the Privy Mark of the balcony at Buckingham Palace where the famous kiss always happens. The obverse of each coin features an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. The design on each coin is in relief with a glorious mirror-finish background.

Available in Cupro Nickel and Proof Sterling Silver, each coin is detailed to perfection and struck four times to attain the highest quality ‘proof’ finish.

Queen Victoria came to the throne aged 18 and died in 1901 when she was 81.  Buckingham Palace have calculated that Queen Victoria reigned for 23,226 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes – over 63 years.  However, Queen Elizabeth II, who became Queen aged 25 in 1952, is set to enter the history books when she overtakes Queen Victoria in September.  This is not the first record however as Her Majesty is already in the record books after becoming the longest living monarch and, according to the Guinness World Records, the Queen also holds the world record for most currencies featuring the same individual.

The series of coins, one from each of the named Overseas Territories, feature a portrait of Her Majesty throughout her life.  A unique Privy Mark has also been added to each coin which has a connection to the portrait.  The designs are as follows:

Ascension Island

1957 portrait from the first televised Christmas Message with the Privy Mark of Sandringham from where the message was televised.

British Virgin Islands

2012 portrait from the State Opening of Parliament with the Privy Mark of the Houses of Parliament.

Falkland Islands

1953 portrait from the Coronation with the Privy Mark of Westminster Abbey

South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands

2011 portrait taken from TRH the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding with the Privy Mark of the balcony at Buckingham Palace where the famous kiss always happens.
