DaVinci - 2006 Unc. Cupro Nickel $1 Coin - SLE

The Mona Lisa is certainly not the only artwork that Leonardo Da Vinci is remembered for. This spectacular coin shows images of his other masterpieces – The Last Supper is shown in the surround with the Vitruvian Man depicted in the centre and throughout the design there are other references to his much loved work. The hands of the Mona Lisa are shown below the Vitruvian Man, the upward pointing hand to the left of the design is from the painting of John the Baptist, the hands to the right and above the Vitruvian Man are from the painting of the Virgin of the Rocks (The second version was completed in 1506) and even the blackberries and the oak leaves are taken from Leonardo Da Vinci’s drawings. Leonardo’s signature is also shown within the design written backwards and forwards in the mirror-writing style that Leonardo adopted. Each coin carries the Coat of Arms of Sierra Leone on the obverse and this wonderful legal tender coin is available in Cupro Nickel, Proof Sterling Silver, an impressive 2oz Fine Silver and a stunning Gold and Fine Silver Bi-Metal – the issue limit of which reflects the year that The Last Supper was completed.
