Falkland Islands 2007 - Greatest Britons Series: Charles Darwin - Uncirculated Cupro Nickel

In 2005 more than half a million Britons cast their votes to decide who was the greatest Briton of all time. In 2006 Pobjoy Mint proudly unveiled a series of coins featuring some of the top names on the list. Following on their sucess another four coins in the Greatest Britons series from the Falkland Islands was released in 2007. 

This new series featured Elizabeth I, the last of the Tudor monarchs reached number seven in the poll. Lord Baden Powell, creator of the scout movement and at number 13 in the poll, was presented with the vessel Discovery by the Falkland Islands government in 1947 for the use of his Sea Scouts and Winston Churchill who came out top.

But this stunning set of coins wouldn’t be complete without a tribute to the most Famous naturalist, Charles Darwin who came in at number four. He visited the islands in 1833 aboard his ship The Beagle.
