London Olympics: Hurdler - 2012 Unc. Cupro Nickel $1 Coin - SLE

The first coin depicts a female hurdler jumping over a Black Taxi. Hurdling is a track and field event and there are both Sprint hurdling and long hurdle events. The standard long hurdle race is 400 metres for both men and women and each of these races are run over ten hurdles. The Black Taxi is seen as an international symbol of London, with drivers being as famous as their vehicle for their use of the ‘knowledge’ – a test all drivers have to pass to prove they know all the streets of London. All designs feature the word ‘Olympic’ at the top of the coin and the value at the base in the surround. The obverse of each coin features the Sierra Leone Coat of Arms and is available in Cupro Nickel and Proof Sterling Silver.
