The Isle of Man Government has issued a beautifully detailed new uncirculated cupro nickel coin from Pobjoy Mint to continue its popular Cat series, this year featuring the smooth Short-Haired Burmese Cat.
Renowned for its intelligence and friendliness towards other family pets - even dogs - the Burmese is nicknamed the 'silken cat' for its beautifully fine, soft fur. In fact its origins are found in the slick and elegant Siamese and Malayan breeds.
Available in Uncirculated Cupro Nickel and Proof Fine 999. Silver, this highly collectable coin has a brilliant mirror image background and makes a delightful addition to the series on Cats. All precious metal versions of this coin have been struck four times to the high standart of the Pobjoy proof quality.
The Burmese made its first appearance in a Paris cat show in 1957 and was known as a Sable cat, since the fine texture and colouring of its fur was reminiscent of the Siberian sable. First bred in the USA, this charming feline was introduced to Europe after the Second World War and made its 'debut' in London in 1947.
The obverse of this IOM crown bears an effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann.
As featured in previous cat issues, a Manx kitten is portrayed on the reverse just behind the Burmese.
Pobjoy Mint aims to dispatch all in stock items within 48 hours.
