Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has spent a lifetime in the service of her country, with the year 2013 marking the historic 60th Anniversary of her Coronation at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953.

To commemorate this incredible dedication to her country, five nations from around the world have united to offer the ultimate tribute as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations: a magnificent coin each from Ascension Island, British Indian Ocean Territory, Falkland Islands, Isle of Man and South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands.

The Falkland Islands commemorative coin features a central image of a young Queen surrounded by a garland of acorns and diamonds, with the image depicting her as she appeared at the time of her Coronation in 1953. The use of the acorns is a link to the Oak Tree, a symbol of strength and longevity and one which has long been associated with The Royal Family. The use of the diamonds in the garland signifies the sixty years that the Queen has been on the throne.

A lifetime of service

Both Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip have dedicated the last 60 years to serving their country and its people. They married on the 20th November 1947 and today have four children, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The Queen acceded to the Throne on the 6th February 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI. She is the second longest serving monarch, after Queen Victoria, and her coronation was attended by 8,251 guests with the return route to Buckingham Palace specially designed to ensure that as many people as possible could see the Queen and her procession. As part of the 2013 celebrations, a special Service of Celebration was held at Westminster Abbey and attended by Her Majesty and the rest of the Royal Family.

These collector’s coins are part of a popular ongoing series that honours Her Majesty’s ‘Lifetime of Service’ and each coin is a unique celebration. Individually and as a set, these coins create a magnificent tribute that will be cherished forever.
