Sierra Leone 2001 - Big Cats of the World Series: The Cheetah - Cupro Nickel

Few African countries are more aware of the urgent need to preserve our wildlife heritage than Sierra Leone. Always ready to promote awareness of the plight of species under pressure. Sierra Leone issued a set of five coins featuring those wonderful big cats - the Lion, Tiger, Cheetah, Cougar and Black Panther - sadly all in danger of extinction around the world. 

This stunning collector's coin features the Cheetah, which is the fastest land animal in the world.  As its long legs and strong hindquarters suggest, is built for running.  The Cheetah's coat is yellowish with black spots and they live in open country where it spends a large part of its time crouched searching for its prey.

The coin designs are magnificent, depicting these beautiful animals in superb detail and come in full colour for the Silver and Unc Cupro Nickel versions.
