Sierra Leone 2001 - Big Cats of the World Series: The Lion- Cupro Nickel

Few African countries are more aware of the urgent need to preserve our wildlife heritage than Sierra Leone. Always ready to promote awareness of the plight of species under pressure. Sierra Leone issued a set of five coins featuring those wonderful big cats - the Lion, Tiger, Cheetah, Cougar and Black Panther - sadly all in danger of extinction around the world. 

This stunning collector's coin features the Lion, which is the second largest of the big cats and is large and powerfully built.  Known as the king of the beast, the Lion is one of the best known of the wild animals.  The lion is a well–muscled cat with a long body, short legs and a large head. 

The coin designs are magnificent, depicting these beautiful animals in superb detail and come in full colour for the Silver and Unc Cupro Nickel versions.

These coins were produced in the following metals: Proof Fine 999.9 1/5oz Gold, Proof Sterling Silver and Unc. Cupro Nickel.
