Sierra Leone 2001 - Big Cats of the World Series: The Panther - Cupro Nickel

Few African countries are more aware of the urgent need to preserve our wildlife heritage than Sierra Leone. Always ready to promote awareness of the plight of species under pressure. Sierra Leone issued a set of five coins featuring those wonderful big cats - the Lion, Tiger, Cheetah, Cougar and Black Panther - sadly all in danger of extinction around the world. 

This stunning collector's coin features the Black Panther. A large, long–tailed cat which feeds on white–tailed deer, wild hog and other mammals. The Black Panther is actually a dark form of leopard whose coat is black all over. The panther spends most of its time resting in trees.

The coin designs are magnificent, depicting these beautiful animals in superb detail and come in full colour for the Silver and Unc Cupro Nickel versions.
