South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands Penguin 50p Series: Chinstrap - 2020 Coloured Cupro Nickel Diamond Finish

Pobjoy Mint is delighted to announce the release of the FIRST coin in a brand new Penguin 50p Series for 2020. After the exceptional response to our previous Penguin collections, we know this series will be a much-loved addition. This new series features four Penguins on behalf of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands Government.

The first coin in this series features the Chinstrap Penguin, named after the band of dark feathers under its chin, which looks like a strap keeping their hat on. The largest colony on the uninhabited South Sandwich Islands of Zavodovski hosts approximately 1.2 million breeding pairs of Chinstrap Penguins. 

Our stunning new 50 pence coin features a single adult Chinstrap Penguin. This stunning news series is available in Cupro Nickel Diamond Finish with each Penguin being portrayed in colour. A certificate of authenticity will also be provided with each coin. The obverse of the coin features the Pobjoy Mint Exclusive Effigy of Her Majesty Quen Elizabeth II.
