The Bank of Sierra Leone has approved the release of a series of six coins depicting five African Mammals who between them, constitute the most well known plains dwelling animals who span the bulk of that Continent.
This series has been named after the reminder given to holidaymakers on safari, when they are told to look out for “The Big Five” animals, which are pictured on these striking coins.
This coin features a Buffalo standing proudly in the bush. The African Buffalo is a huge, sparsely haired animal, with heavy horns typically curving downwards, then up and inwards. It has been greatly reduced in numbers by disease and hunting.
