The Bank of Sierra Leone has approved the release of a series of six coins depicting five African Mammals who between them, constitute the most well known plains dwelling animals who span the bulk of that Continent.
This series has been named after the reminder given to holidaymakers on safari, when they are told to look out for “The Big Five” animals, which are pictured on these striking coins.
This coin features an adult and baby elephant strolling together. The African Elephant is the largest living land animal, weighing up to 7,500kg. It is classified as threatened, suffering particularly from poaching for the ivory trade.
